Our Favorite Fall Farms in the Hudson Valley

We are often asked "when is the best season to visit the Hudson Valley?" And our answer is always Fall. From the gorgeous foliage, crisp fall nights, to fresh autumnal flavors, we are always wishing the season would last longer! Fall in the Hudson Valley is such a beautiful scene. The Shawangunk Mountains become a stunning masterpiece of colors.

Watergrasshill Bed & Breakfast, New Paltz in the Fall

Our B&B is on 15 acres of scenic landscape at the base of the Shawangunk mountains. Our guests enjoy the radiant mountain views from some of our guest room windows or from our sunset porch attached to one of our barns.

Though there are many sights to see and things to do in the New Paltz area, the majority of our fall guests are looking to visit at least one farm before heading back to wherever home may be. With so many to choose from it can be a bit overwhelming to decide which one to visit. We've put together a list of our top farms to visit in New Paltz, all within a 15 minute drive from our Bed & Breakfast.

Apple Trees in Gardiner, NY

The closest in proximity to our B&B, Dressel Farms is great stop for anyone looking for fresh fruit. The road leading up to our B&B is a winding landscape of apple trees, all belonging to Dressels. They have over 20 different varieties of apples to choose from and pick your own lasts the entire fall season. In addition to apple picking, they have a hard cider taproom, Kettleborough Cider House, which is definitely worth checking out. We really enjoy their 'Honey Honey' cider, which is a semi-dry cider made from their honeycrisp apples and NY honey.

Pumpkins at Wallkill View Farm Stand in New Paltz, NY

For those looking for a vegetable farm stand with a delicious bakery, Wallkill View is the place to go. In the fall season they have a pick your own pumpkin patch, hay rides and a corn maze. Grab a fresh cider donut from the bakery and a cup of hot cider to enjoy while browsing their gift shop. They also make fresh pies which is a great treat to take home and enjoy!

If you are looking for a farm where you can spend an afternoon, then Twin Star Orchards in New Paltz is the place for you. They've got pick your own apples, craft cider, wood-fired pizzas and burgers. After an afternoon of apple picking, there's nothing better than relaxing at their farm and enjoying a delicious pizza and a cold hard cider. If your lucky, they may even have live music when you visit.

Another farm not far from our B&B is Tantillo's Farm Market. Tantillo's has fresh fruit & vegetables, pick your own apples, a bakery with cider donuts and delicious fresh pies, and best of all, an ice cream stand! In the fall, the Apple Crisp Sundae is an absolute must!

Last, but certainly not least, is Wright's Farm in Gardiner, NY. Less than 3 miles from our Bed & Breakfast, Wright's has pick your own apples, and a farm stand full of homegrown pumpkins, squash, baked goods and canned goods. Above the farm stand is their brewery, Gardiner Brewing Company. Open on Saturday's and Sunday's, the brewery serves up their house beer, local wine and spirits and small bites.
