Day 1: Arrive, Settle In & Dinner on Main Street

The drive to the Hudson Valley is half the experience. Roll down the windows, let the landscape open up around you, and let the decompression begin before you even park the car.

Check into Watergrasshill B&B in Gardiner, NY and take a wander around the property. A glass of homebrewed iced tea and a freshly baked cookie are waiting for you — the perfect welcome. Soak in the mountain views before the evening ahead.

When hunger strikes, dinner is less than two miles away. Pitanga North on Main Street in Gardiner is a favorite and a great first taste of the community you're about to spend the next few days exploring. No need to drive far — just ease into the evening and the pace of small-town life.

Day 2: Breakfast, Mountains, Wineries & Farm-to-Table Dinner

Wake up slowly. There's no rush — breakfast at Watergrasshill B&B is made from scratch and worth savoring. Owner Alana prepares a from-scratch breakfast each morning featuring seasonal local produce and home-baked goods. She's a wealth of knowledge about the area and happy to share her favorite hidden gems — though if you've read this far, your day is likely already planned.

After breakfast, the mountains are calling.

Morning: Hiking, Climbing & Biking at Mohonk Preserve

Head up into the Shawangunk Mountains for a hike, climb, or bike ride at Mohonk Preserve. With thousands of acres of self-guided trails for every skill level, it's one of the Hudson Valley's crown jewels — whether you're a casual hiker looking for sweeping views or a technical climber drawn to the Gunks' famous quartz conglomerate.

Before hitting the trails, stop by the Gardiner Bakehouse at Full Circle to pick up a freshly made sandwich on their homemade sourdough, and fuel up for your afternoon in the mountains. Forgot something for your hike? Pitch Pine Outfitters across the street from Full Circle has you covered and is a great stop for quality outdoor gear.

Afternoon: Relax Back at the B&B

After a full day in the fresh air, make your way back to Watergrasshill B&B for a mid-afternoon reset. Browse the lending library for a book or a board game, then claim a spot on the back patio or the hammock. This is the kind of slow afternoon that people come to the Hudson Valley for.

Evening: Wine Tasting at Whitecliff Vineyard & Dinner at Clay

Freshen up before heading out for an evening that delivers on every front. Start at Whitecliff Vineyard, one of the Hudson Valley's most celebrated wineries, for a flight of award-winning wines in their welcoming tasting room or on the porch. It's the perfect opening act to a great night out.

Your final stop is dinner at Clay, the restaurant at Wildflower Farms, an Auberge Resort property. The farm-to-table menu leans into rustic New American cooking, the atmosphere is warmly cozy, and the mountain views make it one of the most memorable dining experiences in the Hudson Valley. Reservations are recommended.

Day 3: Breakfast, the Rail Trail & Main Street Gardiner

Your last morning calls for one more home-cooked breakfast at Watergrasshill B&B. Linger over a final cup of coffee on the front porch rocking chairs — a simple pleasure that somehow becomes one of the most memorable parts of any stay. Then pack up, check out, and head out for your final day of adventure in Gardiner.

The perfect way to end the trip is a stroll into town on the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. The trail entrance is less than a quarter mile from the B&B — walk among birdsong and gentle Hudson Valley scenery for just 1.5 miles before arriving on Main Street in Gardiner, NY. No car required.

Once on Main Street, take your time. Wander into local antique, craft, and flower shops including Meadowscent Florist, The Gardiner Collective, and Little Light of Mine — the kind of independently owned shops that make a small town feel like a discovery. Grab a coffee or a bite to eat at Café Mio or The Disgruntled Chef before walking back to the B&B along the trail.

Optional Last Stop: Stock Up at a Local Farm Market

The Hudson Valley is farm country, and leaving without a bag full of local produce would be a missed opportunity. Depending on the season, you may even be able to pick your own fruit.

Watergrasshill B&B Pick: Wright's Farm or Dressel Farms — two beloved family run farms worth a stop for fresh local produce and seasonal specialties. A perfect, grounding last stop before the drive home.

Gardiner, NY Is Beautiful Year-Round

Each season in the Hudson Valley brings something new. Spring brings wildflowers and the first fresh produce of the year. Summer means trails in full bloom, peak farm markets, and warm evenings on the patio. Fall delivers spectacular foliage and apple picking season. Winter offers snow hiking, cozy B&B mornings, and the quiet calm of the mountains in the off-season. Watergrasshill B&B welcomes guests all year long.
